Well, it appears that our very own star (the Sun) has decided to get a little nasty and try to trip the switch on our communications systems as well as some other components of our every day lives.  As I have been saying, look out for sudden disruptions, problems, and other disorienting events as Uranus kicks into high gear in the sign of Aries.   Since entering its own sign Neptune in Pisces will bring its own contributions of subtle yet disorganizing events as well.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The largest solar flare in five years is racing toward Earth, threatening to unleash a torrent of charged particles that could disrupt power grids, GPS and airplane flights.  The sun erupted Tuesday evening, and the effects should start smacking Earth around 7 a.m. EST Thursday, according to forecasters at the federal government’s Space Weather Prediction Center. They say the flare is growing as it speeds outward from the sun.

“It’s hitting us right in the nose,” said Joe Kunches, a scientist for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. He called it the sun’s version of “Super Tuesday.”

The solar storm is likely to last through Friday morning, but the region that erupted can still send more blasts our way, Kunches said. He said another set of active sunspots is ready to aim at Earth right after this.

But for now, scientists are waiting to see what happens Thursday when the charged particles hit Earth at 4 million mph.

NASA solar physicist Alex Young added, “It could give us a bit of a jolt.” But he said this is far from a super solar storm.

The storm is coming after an earlier and weaker solar eruption happened Sunday, Kunches said. This newer blast of particles will probably arrive slightly later than forecasters first thought.

That means for North America the “good” part of a solar storm — the one that creates more noticeable auroras or Northern Lights — will peak Thursday evening. Auroras could dip as far south as the Great Lakes states or lower, Kunches said, but a full moon will make them harder to see.

Auroras are “probably the treat we get when the sun erupts,” Kunches said.

But there is the potential for widespread problems. Solar storms have three ways they can disrupt technology on Earth: with magnetic, radio and radiation emissions. This is an unusual situation when all three types of solar storm disruptions are likely to be strong, Kunches said.

That means “a whole host of things” could follow, he said.

The magnetic part of the storm has the potential to trip electrical power grids. Kunches said power companies around the Earth have been alerted for possible outages. The timing and speed of the storm determines whether it will knock off power grids, he said.

In 1989, a strong solar storm knocked out the power grid in Quebec, causing 6 million people to lose power.

Solar storms can also make global positioning systems less accurate, which is mostly a problem for precision drilling and other technologies, Kunches said. There also could be GPS outages.

The storm also can cause communication problems and added radiation around the north and south poles, which will probably force airlines to reroute flights. Some already have done so, Kunches said.

Satellites could be affected by the storm, too. NASA spokesman Rob Navias said the space agency isn’t taking any extra precautions to protect astronauts on the International Space Station from added radiation from the solar storm.

Whitney Houston

It is unfortunate and perhaps even unfair that a person in their 40′s suddenly dies (Whitney was 48).  Anyone younger, regardless of age falls into the “untimely” death category.  Most people know who Whitney Houston is, or was.  She was a tremendously talented singer, and she was also a sometimes actor.  It is also known that Whitney Houston battled drug and alcohol addictions for a large part of her adult life.  Much of her married life to Bobby Brown was considered unfortunate and unhealthy but we all make our own choices, and mistakes.

Whitney Houston was born August 9, 1963, Newark Heights, New Jersey.  Her birth time was 8:55 pm, EDT.  Whitney’s Sun sign was Leo (ruler is the Sun), Moon sign was Aries (Mars ruled), and her Rising sign was Pisces (Neptune ruled).  The Sun Moon combination suggests a fiery energy (Leo, and Aries) to be recognized, command attention with the grand need to be important, Number One!  Making this combination even larger than life is the Jupiter in Aries conjunct the Moon in Aries in the first house (projection of the self to others).  There is what one might consider   a decidedly self absorbed focus in both her work and love life.

At this point I am unfamiliar with what the cause of death is but Astrologically there are a number of developmental tension aspects (DTAs) in her chart with a majority of them coming to or from the planet Uranus.  Today, in my workshop we were discussing the planet Uranus and its ruler ship over certain conditions, particularly those of one’s health.  Curiously Whitney has the planet Uranus in her house of health (sixth house), and ruling her 12th house, the polar opposite of the house of health.  Even more interesting is the planet Saturn (Retrograde) in Aquarius (co ruler) in the 12th house, and Quindecile (obsession and compulsion) Uranus!  Uranus also is opposite the Ascendant suggesting a very nervous and independent woman.  I wonder how she managed or offset her need to act out emotionally and physically?

Uranus is also in opposition to the Pisces Ascendant (physical body), and Sesquiquadrate the Moon Jupiter conjunction in the first house in Aries.  Topping off  health concerns is a 12th house Saturn in Aquarius in opposition to the Sun in Leo (heart, depression), also in her house of health.  Whitney Houston’s heart, nervous system (Uranus conjunct Mercury in Virgo), depression (Sun opposition Saturn), addictive potentials (Neptune Square the Sun, and Venus in the house of health suggests multiple considerations for both physical and psychological conditions.  This is the chart of a person that “had” to talk constantly, be on the move, and likely felt enormous frustrations and delays in her life.

Regarding the timing of Transits in Whitney’s chart shows Transiting Neptune exactly conjunct her Saturn/Pluto Midpoint suggesting an instability with her life situation due to the complications of fear.  Transiting Uranus contacts her Saturn/Neptune Midpoint suggesting frustration and irritability.  Transiting Pluto is conjunct the Uranus/Neptune Midpoint suggesting a very difficult position for action and getting things done in her life.  Transiting Pluto is also Square Natal Mars in the seventh house (relationships) suggesting extreme force, and excessive effort.  All these contacts have a great strain on the heart (Leo).

There are many more predictors and indicators to Whitney Houston’s chart, however the main focus is obviously on the health, much of which was at a pressure point (Saturn/Pluto, and Mars/Pluto Midpoints).  The sensitive Pisces Ascendant that was Whitney Houston had many weights and obstacles from the get go as most of us do.  Relationships with both mother and father were of special discomfort to a person that more than likely acted out physically/emotionally (Uranus opposite Ascendant, Sesquiquadrate the Moon) and disruptively to get the attention she so strongly needed.  This was a woman who did not feel that she was loved as much as she felt she needed to be (Saturn ruler of the 11th house, house of love received).

Whitney Houston was a very complicated person, and the great needs that she had in all probability limited her in her relationships whether personal, marital, or simply relationships that ran too deeply for most of us to understand.  There was a chatter in both the nervous system and the mind that may have needed the potions that helped quiet the continuous noise and chatter that did not have an off switch.  Whitney Houston was a great singer and a wonderful human being.

There are many cultures throughout time that have used the four elements in religious, mythologic, and philosophical history.  Depending upon the particular culture there is one primary energy that is considered the main energy, the ki energy.  Then, this energy is deployed through the diversity of our physical environment using the elements of nature which are air, water, fire, and of course earth. When working with an Astrological chart that has an imbalance of one or more of these elements then a closer look is required to try and understand where, and what the effect of the imbalance represents.

Today I would like to discuss the lack of the element Air in the Astrological chart.  Often an Element imbalance is seen as having too much or too little of any one particular Element which believe it or not often suggest a difficulty within the physical body when there is an imbalance.  The Air Element has to do with the process of thinking, cognition and communication to name of few.  The Air Element represents our mental abilities.  The ability to think ahead, and plan for situations that can be seen far enough ahead in time to plan for any adjustments that may need attention in the future.

In Astrology the Air signs are Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius.  The ruling planets of these signs are Mercury, Venus, and Uranus, and the ruling houses are the 3rd, 7th, and 11th houses respectively. The dominant element is of course the element that is strongest in the Natal chart, or the element that one is “attuned’ to, or in touch with.  Elements that are lacking emphasis in the chart suggest specific areas in life or creative expression that one is not consciously aware of or in contact with.  A great deal can be learned about an individual simply by analyzing any imbalances in the chart.

With too little of the Air Element in the Natal birth chart the individual often shows a marked lack of perceptive abilities associated with the inability to achieve detachment from their personal actions and often find themselves having to respond to the consequences of having not properly planned for said actions.  There can also be a less than satisfactory results when engaging in personal relationships and or cooperating in a beneficial manner.  There can be difficulty with the adjustment to new ideas and new people, which can lead to a distrust with anyone who might be considered too intellectual.

With too much of the air element the individual has an over active mind and needs to cautioned and reminded not to let the mind get out of control.  This is what is often termed as “a person who lives in their head.”  Often this individual cannot do anything without thinking about it first, which can lead to psychological paralysis and even deep psychological disorders later on.  Here the mind can “run away” with their thinking leading them at times into the world of imagination, but at other times to a sense of disproportionate reality, and completely in fantasy.

Physically, the person with too much of the Air element can be so out of touch with the body  that the mind so completely loses connection to the physical that they become totally exhausted.  There can be a an extremely sensitive nervous system with too much of the air element that they exhaust the nervous system more quickly than those that do not have an imbalance of Air.  In order to offset this mental and nervous overexertion a time of meditation and reflection may be necessary for recovery.  It is also helpful for this element type to have periodic or occasional getaways from their standard environments by taking a short vacation or weekend trip where there is new and relaxing scenery.
