Saturn, Pluto, and the Aries Point

This is a rerun blog from 2009, however after my radio show last night I thought I would run it again.  Cheers, and Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi Folks,

For those of you who have your astrological birth charts, go dust them off and get ready for review.  I highly recommend that you look to see where transiting Saturn (1° Libra), and transiting Pluto (1° Capricorn) fall in your charts.  Pluto has stationed at Capricorn several times of late, but Saturn is now ready to make itself known in Libra; both of which directly relate to the Aries Point right this minute.

Pluto is the planet of grand change, the collective, and the hidden, and Saturn is the planet of ambition, authority figures, and conservatism.  Capricorn is the last Cardinal sign (action) in the natural sequence of the astrological circle, and represents a specialized mode of energy presentation.  Libra, also a Cardinal sign represents an accentuation of the social with an emphasis on striving for balance within relationships.

Pluto has made its presence known over the last several years by going in and out of the signs of Sagittarius and Capricorn.  This is true particularly within the parameters of idealism (Sagittarius) and the administration of the practical and pragmatic (Capricorn).  You can do your own political analysis of the previous political administration, and the one in the white house now, but I don’t think that you can argue that significant change has not occurred since the Bush, and Obama administrations took power.

I recently covered the Aries Point in a previous blog, but I’ll try to reconvey the basics of the AP here. The Aries Point is a powerfully sensitive astrological point in any chart, and in any cardinal sign at 0° (that would be Aries, Cancer, Libra, or Capricorn), and particularly now within the collective (Pluto).  More specifically, the AP represents the potential for projection into public awareness through the planet and sign that is represented.  The AP relates to our connection to the world and can be likened to a conduit or portal as an outward projection and emphasis.

Pluto and the AP suggests the potential for the pioneering of power, and an amending of change through revolution and rebellion.  Think health care, military presence in both Iraq, and Afghanistan, as well as our nation’s monetary difficulties with the who, where, and why all neatly entwined within our own psyche and responsibility as a people and nation.

Saturn at the AP strongly suggests the potential for the perception by other nations (I am speaking globally) for the US to be seen as disciplined, self sufficient, and ambitious.  You might say that other countries already see the US this way, but I would like to remind you that the perception of the US has fallen a long way over the last eight or nine years.  This is the opportunity for all of America and Americans to lift themselves back up into the seat of respectability; something that has been missing since Gitmo, 9-11, and quite possibly corrupt and stolen elections.

Nationally, our response needs to be a collective one such as how we interact with one another, and how we see ourselves.  It will be necessary to become more disciplined, using our restraint regarding tolerance of other groups and religions against political and military knee jerk responses.  We must reinstate the self sufficiency of our political ideology, and regain our ambition to do the right things for the for the right reasons, and correct the wrongs of the past.

Blessings

A New Look At Old Saturn

Hi Folks,

It seems that through thousands of years the consensus on Saturn and his mythology, it has been one of evil and cruelty.  I would like to as briefly as possible walk you through some of the academic and mythological information regarding Saturn.  The worship of Saturn has been around for as long as there have been written records by man.  Much of the information I am offering can be regarded as “occult” or “hidden” information, and documentation.  Many people have been brought up to associate the word “occult” with satanism, sacrifice, and everything evil, but this simply is not true.

Saturn, dubbed “Lord of the Rings” (sound familiar?) is the reason why we exchange rings at weddings or put halos on the heads of godly people.  Since as far back as the Chaldeans (more…)

Astrological Dynamics Of Depression

Analyzed By Pluto

Hi All,

The basic concepts and strictures of psychology are simply, and sometimes oddly, related formats of ancient texts and understandings for the healing of the soul.  Not unlike Astrology the world of psychiatry/psychology endeavors to help heal those seeking relief from emotional and psychic pain through the use of symbolism.  It has been stated (more…)

The Dark and Bright Side Of The Saturn Return

Hello Everyone,

Today I would like to discuss the planet Saturn (ruler of Capricorn), an often maligned planet.  This can be attributed to the circumstances that most of us experience during the time of our 28th or 29th birthday; otherwise know as the Saturn Return or when Saturn has made its way back to its original position in the natal chart.  Saturn is most potent in 7 year increments beginning at age 7 or so (square its natal position); 14 years (opposite its natal position); and 21 years (again square its natal position), and, as previously mentioned when it returns to its natal position at 28 years of age.

For many, the Saturn Return represents (more…)

Dante and Virgil, Pluto and The Psyche

Hi All,

For the last while I have been researching the psychology of dreams through a number of metaphysical and scientific sources as well as my own experiences.  All though there are many contributors to the telling and the direct experience of dreams and dream work there is no better contributor than our own minds.  Our emotions are our leaders into the experiences that we all engage, and until we understand our dreams we will not be able to really understand ourselves.

There have been many cultures that have extolled the dreams of the individual and the community collectively while attempting to maintain the individual experience as a separate one.  Many of the communities as well as the smaller villages encouraged the need to dream and the tremendously important information that was received through them.  Some of the communal leaders even had a designated dreamer for the village if the men were off to war or there had been an illness that had devastated the community/village population.  These “designated dreamers were often called Shamans (soul diviners, Pluto).

In the Divine Comedy, a poem (dreams?) written by Dante Alighieri during the last part of his life while in exile (between 1308 and 1321) it is the Roman poet Virgil that leads Dante through hell and purgatory.  For those of you that have not read this extraordinary poem it is written in the first person.  In other words it is the actual experience of the writer that you are envisioning.  So it is with the progression or transit of the planet Pluto through sensitive parts of the Natal Astrological chart.  Pluto heralds in the coming encounter(s) through mathematical measurement (aspect) to sensitive parts of the Astrological chart.

Often, but not always, an encounter such as Dante’s is met with the Astrological activation of the chart angles such as the Ascendant (first house), and Mid Heaven (10th house) along with their corresponding angles and houses (Descendant or seventh house, and the Imum  Coli, or fourth house).  The matching angles of the Ascendant and the Mid Heaven are never far behind because the back needs a front and up needs down.  When one is affected the other one is as well.  Pluto in measurement to the Sun, Moon or any number of midpoints are equally influenced by Pluto leading us into the descent of the underworld.

It is on the night before Easter Sunday, and Dante is thirty five years old when the poem begins (enough time for Pluto to make a major aspect to an angle or planet), and Dante finds himself lost in “sin” (Pluto, Scorpio).  Dante is assailed by beasts (a lion, Leo/Sun, ego, and a she-wolf, Mars, Aries), and he finds it impossible to evade them no matter what he tries all the while searching for the “right way” (discipline, Saturn).  It is then that Virgil (the psyche, represented by Mercury) begins to lead Dante down into the underworld where each of his sins are “punished (Saturn, Capricorn) in the inferno (Pluto, Scorpio) which represented the soul (Sun, Leo).

Dante’s poem continues with other twists and turns but the point here is that a major Pluto aspect or measurement is not unlike the one where Virgil accompanies Dante into hell and the abyss.  It is the individual that must travel this path alone.  Pluto (sin, destruction, infernos) and Mercury (psyche, messages and madness) walk hand in hand when meeting up to discern what it is we have done at different points of our lives.  It is the self that must meet the mind and the sins that have been constructed against ourselves and others.  When all has been encountered we are either transformed (Pluto) or we lose our minds (Mercury), but either way, it must be done, and on our own.

Aho

Saturn Retrograde

Hi All,

As I have previously mentioned, in astrology the planet Saturn is considered a difficult or malefic entity in contrast to the other planets.  Much can be said for this belief, as Saturn represents difficulty, trial, and discipline.  This is due primarily to the fact that Saturn’s cycles revolve around critical seven year increments.  At the age of seven (more…)

Cognitive Triad Theory and Saturn

Hi Folks,

As in many aspects of astrology there are certain negative components that are perpetuated by those that do not have a full or even partial understanding, such as the planet Saturn for example.  Saturn has long been maligned both by astrological traditionalists, and more recently neo astrologists.  There is a continuing belief that there are good and bad aspects in astrology; if anything, the good becomes the bad, and the bad becomes the good.  Saturn, like a stern father can be viewed from varying perspectives, primarily the hard and strict disciplinarian or the loving yet stern parent that refuses to spare the rod.

The Cognitive Triad Theory relates to how cognitive symptoms of depression precede the affective and mood symptoms of depression rather than the other way around; the onset of depression are the negative thoughts, instead of hormonal imbalances or changes.  It is believed that those at risk for depression is due to the dysfunctional attitudes or beliefs of those that that did not get into their college of choice for example.  The students then began doubting their futures, and these thoughts led to their depression.  It is quite interesting how the planet Saturn intersects this time period in early adulthood.  Basically these students were depressed by their perception and discourse of the past, present, and the future; the framework of the triad.

For many college students going away to an unfamiliar place and environment is often the beginning or onset of clinical depression, and sometimes schizophrenia.  There are many theories regarding depression and its onset.  The general argument (more…)

The Dimensions and Suddenness of Uranus

Hi All,

In some of my earlier posts I have mentioned the qualities and attributes of Saturn, Neptune, and Pluto.  Today I would like to cover some of the qualities and dimensions of the planet Uranus (freedom and individuality).  Uranus is the planetary ruler of Aquarius and the 11th house (collectivity of a group or power of society), signifying the importance of how quickly and dramatically circumstances can and do change when working in these areas.

Side Bar:  Astrological planets rule specific and sometimes multiple houses in a chart, however these planets are often in other houses due to obvious factors such as the length of orbit and date of birth.  This does not disqualify (more…)

Your Saturn, and Your Worry

Hi All,

As an Astrologer it is often brought to my attention the level of worry that many people carry with them.  Whether it be a client, a friend, or family member it is not difficult to gauge their level of worry.  The state of Saturn in your Astrological chart often represents how much one worries, or becomes depressed.  Sometimes it will be for a very short period of time, and sometimes it can be many years.  This all depends on what Astrological tool is being used to make this determination, but it is not difficult to see.
