Hi Folks,

Well, it sure has been a long hard slog trying to shake astrologers in this area out of their trees.  I have offered several free workshops to date, Continue reading

To Journey Or Not To Journey

Hi All,

The term “Journey” in Shamanism refers to the flight of the soul of the person journeying.  There are a number of methods or techniques that one can employ such as drumming or chanting, however this really isn’t for the curious or light hearted person.  I am finding out more and more that “journeying” is misinterpreted as well as misrepresented; some teachers believe it takes years before being able to journey, while some believe it only takes months.  As mentioned in an earlier blog, there are some individuals who believe that in order to journey one needs to take a hallucinogenic or entheogen; this just isn’t so.

Before attempting to learn to journey it is paramount that the student or novice now what he/she is doing.  There are three areas of travel that the shaman uses (although these are not exclusive) and they are the Lower, Middle, and Upper Worlds.  Depending upon what your teacher instructs, or what you find in your own research, there is no particular order in their use other than what it is you are working with or for.  In one of my instructions I was taught that one does not travel to the Middle World until you are very experienced.  I was told that it is here that you can get into serious trouble, sometimes lethal trouble; it just depends on the teacher.

I would highly recommend the person desiring to journey have someone with them that is experienced in this area to help them.  This person or instructor/teacher  will be there to either drum (3 to 4 beats per second) for the participant, or to verbally instruct the individual through a process of visualization or both.  If you do have a helper he/she can also take notes regarding your experience as well as maintain a dialogue between you and your guide(s) during your journey.  This is tremendously helpful for when you return from your journey and you wish to review it.

The correct phrase for when a shaman journeys is called the “Shamanic Flight of the Soul”, and the drum, rattle, didgeridoo, or chanting (to name a few), are used for producing this psychological/physiological state of mind.  The choice of instrument also will determine the primary state of the journey and how the journey is experienced.  It is essential for the drummer to know the intention of the practitioner as well as having a preset “return”  signal, as well as predetermined time span for the length of the journey.  The instruments role in the journey’s delineation is very important because without the instrument there is no journey.

There is so much more, but if you do decide that you wish to journey please be informed (know what you are doing); have a partner or instructor if you are new to this, this way they can drum for you; have a grounding exercise to use before you attempt to journey; if alone have a preselected CD (preferably drumming), and know its call back signal; have your intention(s) prepared before you journey such as what it is you wish to learn, meet, or do; and be thankful to the energies and environments before returning (say thank you and goodbye); upon returning try and write down that which you just experienced in a journal or tape record it (be prepared).

Pleasant Journeys my friends!

Aho

“Yes We Can!” “Hell No We Won’t!”

Hi All,

The above battle cries of the Left and the Right wing politicos says it all, only thing is no one is listening.  I understand that as human beings we are all different and see life from sometimes small and differing perspectives.  Then, there are the incompatible ideals of such monumental and universally challenging debate that it appears an impossibility to reconcile any differences at all.  Oh yes, that word “reconciliation”, the word that has been bantered about over the last few months.  Still, doesn’t it seem ironic to have such a simple noun contribute to such an inflammatory environment?

We are an inherently dynamic and creative species.  As human beings we manifest our realities on a daily basis.  I know, I know, there are those of you that will insist Continue reading

It’s Spring Already?

Hi All,

Time is increasing in speed and distance.  The proof?  Spring is next Saturday and I tell you it was Christmas no less than a week ago.  Proof?  My tree is still in the living room and of course my neighbor still has his Christmas lights blazing at night.  Well, the first part is not true but my neighbor’s lights are there for the world to see.  Time has never behaved with such disregard for my concept of it, nor my perspective of linear space.  Science tells me that time is a man made tool but I believe otherwise.

This year Spring comes on March 20th in the Northern Hemisphere (dates vary with the year), and that means this Saturday.  I try to celebrate each Continue reading

Reaching For the Stars

Hi All,

Springtime is just around the corner along with an added hour of daylight.  I have always wondered how as people, we think that we are somehow given or find, an extra hour of daylight as if we had it stashed somewhere in drawer.  Perhaps this extra hour is similar to the “junk drawer” you know, that drawer that almost everyone has.  The one where we keep extra tools, pens, pencils, paper clips or ties for grocery bags along with long forgotten grocery lists.

I have decided that I am going to celebrate the beginning of each season with a welcoming in “party” or ceremony.  This coming party will be for the start of Spring also known as Continue reading

When Reiki Comes To Town

Hi All,

My last Reiki clinic was well attended but the rain kept potential participants at home where it was warm, dry, and cozy on a cold winter’s night.  It is always interesting to meet new people, and interact with those that you know at such a clinic.   What I very much enjoy is the amount of Reiki energy that is manifested by the people that are in the room.  Whether someone stays for a short time or stays the duration, the energy stays with them for the entire evening and into the next several days.

I feel that it is important for you to know that during these hectic times in our world that Reiki is an energy that will help you to relax and be better grounded.  Reiki does not Continue reading

An Astrologer In San Luis Obispo

Hi All,

I have been doing quite a bit of research lately on Occult Theocracy (hidden religious study) and the relationship between man, the stars, and their symbols.  The books I am reading are many years of research and by many individuals over the course of hundreds of years.  Still, everything regarding monotheism (belief in one God) and polytheism (belief in more than one God) end up at the same location.  I am not going to tell you what the conclusions are simply because I don’t want to tread on anyone’s religious or spiritual beliefs.

What I have concluded is that not in the too distant past a person such as myself would be condemned to death for practicing astrology; astrologers were then known as “time watchers.”  There are a multitude Continue reading

“One More Time”, A Short Story

Sitting in the kitchen facing the open wheat fields I can hear grandfather clock slowly ticking, passing the minutes and seconds off as the afternoon slips into the evening.  It’s been three years now since I walked into, and past the living room that holds the rack that held your hat.  There was a time when we would know if the other was home simply by checking for the other’s hat.  You might say that the hat rack told the important times of the day (probably our lives) better than grandfather clock.  Now it is the silence that holds the time of day, handing out the hours like a priest presenting God’s holy wafers to his flock; stoically and seemingly without conscience or attendance.

I cannot help myself from peeking up and over to where you once placed your hat.  A simple, yet carefully contoured palm leaf hat that held the faint white stains of salt from work Continue reading

“Ain’t It Funny, How time Slips Away”

Hi All,

The above quote is from a Willie Nelson song, a lamentation of the distance that time creates between us humans in relationships, memories, and experiences.  I can recall even to this day listening to a teacher in high school reminisce about how quickly time was passing.  He couldn’t have been more than 32 at the time and he was discussing this with a student, who was in total agreement with him!  I have often wondered how a teenager could relate to this experience, and now that I am older, how a man of 32 could feel this way.

My studies in Astrology have helped to clarify my feelings of befuddlement at that time.  Of course, we all experience life and its proclivities differently, but how does one’s perception Continue reading

Oh My! Facebook What Have You Done

Hi All,

Like many of you I use a network called Facebook for promoting my business, and connecting with other like minded professionals; it is primarily used for contacting friends from yesteryear.  It has been several lifetimes since I left high school and the friends I once knew.  Facebook has reconnected me to many of these old friends and acquaintances which for the most part has been pleasant,  yet disturbing.  In reconnecting with these old friends I am finding that my interpretation of my younger years isn’t what I thought it was.  Not even close.

There are people that I thought would never talk to me again, and then there are those that I thought would be happy to once again be in touch.  I can’t begin to explain the confusion I have since experienced Continue reading

The Haiti Earthquake

Hi Folks,

This blog is for those of you that are interested in the intricacies of astrological and mathematical points and measurements.  My attempt here is to not get too involved in attempting to explain all the points but to bring to light some of the inner workings of transits and Solar Arcs or SA’s.  So please forgive me if I do not explain all of the information I am giving you, but try and visualize how completely accurate astrology can actually be.

Often, when attempting to delineate the charts of astrological events such as the recent earthquake in Haiti it becomes Continue reading

Rest In Peace Bootsy

Hi Folks,

I hope that all of you have had a great start to this new year and new decade, I know that I have.  Yesterday I was at the SLO Homeless Shelter offering Reiki to those that wanted some.  My waiting list filled up quickly and I was busy throughout.  The day began as a cold morning but quickly warmed up with most of the clients sitting in the sun and enjoying their breakfast or cup of coffee.  After my first Reiki session a gentleman that is a client there brought out a guitar and harmonica and began playing a song by the Eagles and a Bill Withers tune “Ain’t No Sunshine When She’s Gone”; he was quite good.

Like most of you I love animals, pets in particular.  I have a dog that has been my buddy for almost 13 years and I am acutely aware Continue reading

Looking Back at 2009

Hi All,

Next year is only a day and a half away.  I am hopeful for this coming new year, not only for myself but for the consciousness of our society and our world as a whole.  I have many things to look back on and to be thankful for, but there are several that deeply bother me.  I am struggling to determine if it’s me, others, or a combination of the two that is responsible for my concerns.  I have promised myself to get to the bottom of them, and I will, in due time.

This last year brought a close to my membership with some volunteer organizations that I very much cared for.  Being a volunteer Continue reading
