San Luis Obispo and Its Peculiar Astrological Chart

Hi All,

I wanted to research the astrological data for the city of San Luis Obispo.  In Astrology this is termed “Mundane” or Judicial Astrology.  And no, this type of “Mundane”  does not mean “lacking interest or excitement”, or “dull”, as you will find in the dictionary.  Mundane, or Judicial Astrology is when an Astrologer puts the information of when a city was first incorporated, or when a state such as California, was admitted into the Union, (which was September 9 1850) and formulates a chart.  Just as I would record a chart for a newborn baby, I would do the same for any “thing” or event.  By doing this one can find out some very specific and pertinent information.

Well, I as I began my research I was almost immediately derailed.  It seems that San Luis Obispo had a difficult time becoming an official city within the state of California.  The information available on the Internet or at the library is rather limited, I thought there would be more to go by.  So I then contacted the San Luis Obispo History Center in which volunteer researcher Alan Ochs kindly sent me some copies of old newspaper clippings that covered the process of the city’s incorporation.  I wish to publicly thank Mr. Ochs and the San Luis Obispo History Center for their help in this difficult project .

It turns out that San Luis Obispo was officially first incorporated February 19, 1856.  I do not have the official time (apparently it was not recorded) needed to create an astrological chart for San Luis Obispo, but the level of the city’s future difficulties certainly led me to it.  I will get to what I believe is the correct time later, but there is more to the city’s incorporation.  The incorporation of San Luis Obispo lasted a little over two years.  On April 26, 1858, the legislature repealed the law of 1856 leaving the city to its own initiative.

The next effort for incorporation came in 1859 at the hands of Charles H Johnson, the city’s first “mayor.”  It was not until April 14, 1863 that the city of San Luis Obispo was again “incorporated” a second time.  On March 24, 1870, an amendment to the law of 1863, establishing the “reincorporation” of San Luis Obispo, was passed.  It was not until March 20, 1876 that the legislature changed the incorporation from “town” of San Luis Obispo to the “city” of San Luis Obispo.  There are a number of other dates that helped to hinder or facilitate the status of  San Luis Obispo, but I am neither an attorney or land developer and found the navigation of these steps confusing.

Finally, let us get to the part here where I can give you my educated opinion concerning the Rising Sign and assorted mathematical measurements for the city of San Luis Obispo.  One might ask if it was the first, or second time that incorporated the “city” or “town” of San Luis Obispo, and that would be a good question.  Given the other dates I have can only leave questions to the city’s true astrological chart.  However, I took February 19, 1856 as the official date, at 10:06 am, which gives our fair city  a 16 degree Taurus Ascendant (Rising Sign), with Uranus conjunct the Ascendant, suggesting a tremendous thrust for independence.  Taurus is the sign of values, and steadfastness; don’t push too hard, you just might regret what you get for your efforts.

With the date and time I choose, the Sun had just left the sign of Aquarius entering the sign of Pisces only eight hours earlier!  The Sun was in the 11th house suggesting a great energy for friends, hopes and goals.  The Moon was in the sign of Leo, suggesting a proud energy with the great demand for attention and recognition from others.  Appropriately, the Moon was in the fourth house suggesting a tremendous desire for the realization and recognition of finally being a home, and safe haven for those that lived there.  Saturn was in the second house, the house of self worth, inconjunct (friction and difficulty) the chart’s ruling planet Venus, in the ninth house of laws and religion of the higher minds of man.

All in all, the city of San Luis Obispo initially struggled for its acceptance, recognition, and respect (Leo Moon), while tirelessly plodding ahead (Taurus Rising) with the idea (Venus, Chart Ruler) of maintaining the beliefs of its citizenry to be incorporated into a city.  The sensitive nature that is San Luis Obispo can be seen and felt (Pisces) anywhere within the downtown area, along with the wide open spaces that are available to those that seek solitude and quiet (Neptune, Pisces).  The continual first struggles for incorporation were felt over the 20 years (1856-1876) of going from “town” to “city”, and over the course of our country’s difficult and painful Civil War.

Aho
